This past weekend was the annual Arts In Central Park event located in downtown Decatur Illinois. I am a volunteer coordinator for the Barn Colony Artists group who host a tent showcasing work in a variety of mediums produced by it's diverse membership. This was my 10th year for participating and although not a huge milestone necessarily, a spectacular sunset occurring behind a departing system during Friday evening's opening had special significance.

Sunday morning I stopped by the river before heading to the event.
As if the weekend weren't enough, early Friday morning when system responsible for the awesome sunset arrived, it did so with a show of it's own.

Labor Day Weekend Storms
It was somewhat of an active weekend hence the late post. Advance apology if the page load is a little slow due to so much material. Beginning late Friday, a complex to the east kicked off some distant lightning that was best captured through the 300mm.

Saturday morning, another storm fired so I gave follow to near Cisco IL.
Later that afternoon another complex developed along an advancing cold front whereby I ended up at Cisco again!
As the cold front dropped south, it lit up after dark with continuous lightning and numerous severe warnings from I-70 southward. I was unable to travel far so I made due despite the distance.

This night was my first time attempting to work the Milky Way into the compositions.
A distant cluster over by the Indiana state line caught my attention on the way home so I attempted again with the 300mm.

Labor Day
I made the best of the holiday despite not being off for it and visited the Kaskaskia River State Fish and Wildlife Management Area after work on Monday. For being the unofficial last day of summer, this trip was perhaps the most productive yet and especially since the last time I was down it was in flood.
