Friday Night Lights

Though it seems like I have abandoned this blog, I have been a picture taking fool as of late but mostly just posting to social media. At the end of this roller coaster of a year I hope to at least update my site with everything captured during. In the meantime, these were sitting on the desktop and figured be worth a quick post. Back on September 18th we had multiple rounds of storms drift along and north of the I-72 corridor. Though only marginally severe with the worst activity having occurred much further east, they were all prolific lightning producers.

Delaware IV

All good things must come to an end but upon leaving out from Lewes, we made one more stop at the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. I could spend days at this sprawling salt marsh where there were blue crabs under the surface moving about the common emergent freshwater plants like arrowhead and cattail. A very surreal place that for only having about an hour to spend with, was extremely generous.





















arriving back in Illinois, a fitting end to the journey greets us in Piatt County.

Delaware III

Day two of our brief visit couldn't have been timed better for the entire Delmarva was under the risk for severe weather. As the afternoon wore on, a system progressing from the west sparked off numerous storms to the south including both severe as well as tornado warned. Though a cell of note that had been heading directly for us dissipated by arrival, the remnants made for an excellent backdrop in the end of day light. Blowing sand from the outflow generated by this storm could be seen in the distance. Once the boundary moved overhead, additional cells developing over the sea presented me with what was perhaps the greatest photographic opportunity of our journey.

We would then be asked to leave by a park ranger as the beach closes at nightfall. From there we went over to Lewes Beach and set up for additional storms moving across the Southern New Jersey peninsula.









Perspective as here too I would have to make a quick exit due to heavy rainfall moving in from the west. Additional storms would pass through the overnight but I was simply too tired to go out though no complaints.

Delaware II

Day two of our short visit netted remarkable opportunity including a peaceful sunrise over Cape Henlopen State Park. Distant cloud line from a severe warned cell to the north was a nice touch even though it was too far away to be of significance.
